Energy drinks jolt blood pressure, study finds

The increasingly popular high-caffeine beverages called energy drinks may do more than give people a jolt of energy -- they may also boost heart rates and blood pressure levels, researchers said on Tuesday. The results of a small study prompted the researchers to advise people who have high blood pressure or heart disease to
avoid energy drinks because they could impact their blood pressure or change the effectiveness of their medications. The drinks generally have high levels of caffeine and taurine, an amino acid found in protein-rich foods like meat and fish that can affect heart function and blood pressure, the researchers said. "We saw increases in both blood pressure and heart rate in healthy volunteers who were just sitting in a chair watching
movies. They weren't exercising. They were in a resting state," James Kalus of Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, who led the study, said in an interview. The increases did not rise to dangerous levels in the group of 15 healthy volunteers, whose average age was 26, the
researchers said. But the increases potentially could be significant in people with cardiovascular disease or those taking drugs to lower heart rate or blood pressure, they told a meeting of the American Heart Association in Orlando, Florida. "While the amount of caffeine in energy drinks or coffee may cause a slight and temporary increase in blood pressure, it would have no greater effect than walking up a flight of steps," the American Beverage Association industry trade group said in a statement responding to the findings. "So singling out energy drinks in a unique manner, particularly when compared to a more commonly consumed caffeinated beverage like coffee, does not provide a full and proper context for consumers."

BOOSTING ENERGY
The products have names like Full Throttle, Amp and Rush. Red Bull, made by Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, is a market leader. Beverage companies market various energy drinks as soft drinks that can boost a person's energy. Kalus declined to say which brand of energy drink was used in the study. He said the drinks generally contain similar ingredients, adding, "By giving the brand, it would dilute the message that all of these drinks need to be looked at."
Coca-Cola Co. makes Full Throttle. The study participants were asked not to consume other forms of caffeine for two days before starting the study and then throughout a study in which they consumed two cans of energy drinks daily over seven days. Each can contained 80 milligrams of caffeine and 1,000 milligrams of taurine. The volunteers' heart rates rose by about 8 percent on the first day and 11 percent on the seventh day. Maximum systolic blood pressure -- the top number in blood pressure readings that represents pressure while the heart contracts -- rose by 8 percent on the first day and 10 percent on the seventh day, the study showed.
Diastolic blood pressure -- the bottom number that gives the pressure when the heart relaxes between beats -- rose by 7 percent on the first day and 8 percent on the seventh day.
The study did not identify ingredients responsible for the changes, but Kalus said it probably was caffeine and taurine. Kalus said the study did not address possible health effects from the way some people consume these drinks, such as mixing them with alcohol.

Kangen Water is a trademarked name for the best alkaline ionized water in the world, which is a healthier form of water, with significant and beneficial anti-oxidant properties. Creating Kangen Water starts with a thorough filtration of impurities and then an electrolysis process which separates ordinary water (H20) into two completely separate entities. Coca- Cola is undoubtedly one of the most recognized and successful brands on the planet, but even they have pushed marketing into the realms of the ridiculous with their international bottled water – Dasani. In 2004, Coca-Cola was forced to take Dasani, off the UK shelves after a public outcry because it contained nothing more than tap water. As a result it’s never made it to German or French shops. But sales of Dasani are still rising in the US and it is being strongly promoted in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico and several other Latin American countries.
Coca-Cola itself says that Dasani isn’t spring water and that it is sourced from local tap water supplies. But from its marketing and packaging, one could easily think otherwise. Dasani promotional material gushes with terms like: ‘Filtered for purity using state of the art processes’ and ‘enhanced with a special blend of minerals for a pure, crisp, fresh taste’ What it doesn’t say quite as loudly is that Dasani comes from the same local municipal reservoirs as the water out of
the tap. Coca-Cola is not doing anything illegal, but advertising which suggests their bottled water is significantly superior to local tap water is misleading. They are simply repackaging in plastic containers a common resource and charging consumers hundreds to thousands of times what it would cost out of the tap.

By bottling up this universal resource to sell back to us, corporations, such as Coca-Cola have created a US$100 billion industry at a time when one billion people in the world lack access to safe drinking water. The quest to create ionized water, a road to the physical regeneration of the human body, was inspired by the desire of certain perseverant individuals to capture nature's perfect water.
The modern technology used in ionization was first invented by Michael Faraday, inventor of the dynamo and the magneto. Michael Faraday was a revered pioneer in the field of electrical energy. With regard to modern water ionization, his core invention was an electrolysis device. Electrolysis is the electronic separation of water into hydrogen and oxygen, a key technological foundation that permitted the invention of the alkaline water ionizer. At the time, Faraday had no clue as to the impact his discovery would later have on the modern technology of purified healthy water.




Testing Your pH

1. First thing upon waking, test your saliva with the pHydrion paper (available at most health food stores). When you get out of bed, spit in a spoon and then dip the end of a pHydrion test strip in the saliva (DO NOT PLACE THE PAPER IN YOUR MOUTH - this keeps the chemicals on the test strip out of your mouth and out of your bloodstream). Note the color change, compare to the color guide on the container, and write down the pH number on the test log. Do this before brushing your teeth, drinking, smoking, or even thinking of eating any food. The optimum saliva pH should be 6.8 to 7.2.




2. Next, test your first urine of the morning. This is urine that has been stored in your bladder during the night that is ready to be eliminated when you get up. You need to urinate on a strip of pHydrion paper. Simply pass the end of the strip quickly through the stream of urine. Note the color change and compare it to the guide on the test strip container and write down the pH number for your records. The first urine should run optimally between a pH 6.8 to 7.2. If your first urine pH is lower than 6.8 you are deficient in alkaline buffers and need to consume alkaline ionized water and move to a more alkaline diet rich in fresh green vegetables and fruits. If your first urine pH is higher than 7.2 you are taking in enough alkaline buffers to neutralize the acids produced by physical, mental and emotional stress and metabolism from the day before. Calif. Students Sick after Drinking Bottled Water


SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — A dozen students became sick after drinking bottled water from a vending machine at a Southern California junior high school, authorities said.

The students at La Mesa Junior High School in Santa Clarita complained Thursday of headaches, nausea and dizziness after drinking Aquafina water from a vending machine that appeared to contain a “bleach-like substance,” said Los Angeles County fire inspector Steve Zermeno.

Twelve students were taken to hospitals and released, Zermeno said. They said the water had a chemical smell, he said.

Cody Commons, an eighth-grader who was treated at a hospital, told television station KTLA that the water “was kind of cloudy and it tasted kind of funny,” but that he drank it anyway. He said he started feeling cramps “a couple hours later.”

Pat Willett, community liaison for William S. Hart Union School district, said the district ordered all schools to remove Aquafina water from vending machines or shut down the machines until further notice.

The FBI is investigating, agency spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

Jeff Dahncke, spokesman for The Pepsi Bottling Group, which manufactures Aquafina, said there is no evidence the contamination was caused by the company’s manufacturing process and Pepsi believes it was an isolated incident.

“We have examined and tasted numerous bottles that were produced at the same time as those in this case and have found them to be free of any problems whatsoever,” the company said in a statement. It said it was working closely with authorities to determine what happened.

Aquafina, a leading brand of bottled water, is bottled at Pepsi plants from public water sources using a seven-step purification process, according to the Aquafina Web site.

Fat is an Acid Problem!
Perhaps one of the most well known discoveries is his theory of the cause
of obesity. He has shown that fat is actually an over acidification problem.
What does that mean? The body creates fat cells to carry acids away from
your vital organs, so these acids don’t literally chock your organs to death.
Fat is saving your life! Fat is actually a response from the body to an
alarming over acidic conditions.
The solution? Alkalize and Energize.

What about Underweight?

At the other end of the health spectrum, the yeast and fungus produced



within an overly acidic body can feed on your nutrients and reduce the
chemical and mechanical absorption of everything you eat by as much as
50%. This causes many people to become excessively thin; this is no
healthier than becoming overweight. Without protein, your body cannot
rebuild new tissues or produce enzymes, hormones, or hundreds of other
chemical components necessary for cell energy and organ activity.
Fatigue, illness and body weight changes are the results. An underweight

As their body normalizes, they will begin to gain toward their ideal weight.
Allergies

Fatigue
Fatigue is probably the major symptom or complaint of an overly acidic

reconstruction of cells and other necessary components of energy
production. The result is fatigue, poor endurance, and inablility to add
muscle tone and general weakness.

Louis Pasteur in the late 1800’s formed the idea that diseases come from germs
that invaded the body from the outside. Dr. Young has found that when the body
is in a healthy alkaline balance, germs are unable to get a foothold.

Think of your body as a fish tank. Think of the importance of maintaining the
integrity of the internal fluids of the body that we “swim” in daily. Imagine the fish
in this tank are your sells and organ systems bather in fluids, which transport
food and remove wastes.


Now imagine we back up a car and put the tailpipe up against the air intake filter
that supplies the oxygen for the water in the tank. The water become filled with
carbon monoxide, lowering the alkaline pH, creating an acidic pH environment
and threatening the health pf the “fish,” your cells and organs.
What if we throw in too much food or the wrong kind of food (acid-producing food
like dairy, sugar and animal protein) and the fish are unable to consume or digest
it all, and it starts to decompose and putrefy? Toxic acid waste and chemicals
build up as the food breaks down creating more acidic by products, altering the
optimum alkaline pH.
Basically, this is a small example of what we may be doing to our internal fluids
every day. We are fouling them with pollution, smoking, drugs, excessive intake
of food, over-consumption of acid-forming foods (dairy food, sugar, animal
protein), and any number of transgressions which compromise the delicate
balance of our internal alkaline fluids.
Some of us have fish tanks (bodies) that are barely able to support life, yet we
somehow manage to struggle from day to day, building more severe imbalance
until there is the inevitable crash and debilitating chronic, disturbing and
disorganizing symptoms to deal with.
The pH level (the acid-alkaline measurement) of our internal fluids affects every
cell in our bodies. Extended acid imbalances of any kind are not well tolerated
by the body. Indeed, the entire metabolic process depends on a balanced
internal alkaline environment. A chronically over-acidic pH corrodes body tissue,
slowly eating into the 60,000 miles of veins and arteries like acid eating into marble.

If left unchecked, it will interrupt all cellular activities and functions, from
the beating of your heart to the neural firing of your brain. In summary, overacidification
interferes with lift itself leading to all sickness and disease!
The most important thing you we will learn is to hydrate the body with alkalizing
water. Like the earth on which we live, our bodies are 70% water. Food cravings
are often the body’s cry for water. A thirst for water will develop as on begins to
hydrate with water.
A diet high in acid foods such as meat, dairy, grains, high sugar fruits, and bread,
causes acid wastes to build up in the body. When acid wastes enter our
bloodstream, the blood system will attempt to dispose of these wastes in liquid
form through the lungs or the kidneys. If there are too many wastes to handle,
they are deposited in various organ systems like the heart, pancreas, liver, colon
and other locations.
The breakdown of this disposal process of acid waste could also be called “the
aging process.” To slow down and reverse this process, one must begin by
removing this over-acidification of the blood and tissues by including liberal
amounts of alkaline water in the diet. Alkaline water has a pH between 8.5 and
9.5, and will neutralize harmful stored acid wastes and gently remove them
from the tissues.

Did you know that high acidity levels in your body can lead to disease and illness? And that most of the food we eat and beverages we drink contribute to a high acidity level?
